A few years ago I noticed that cake plates were all the rage. Especially the truly unique plates made from an old candlestick holder and an old plate. Since then, I’ve made quite a few in all different sizes. This makes a fabulous gift to bring to someone’s dinner party or brunch. It really costs very little to put together and your grateful host will be able to use it often. When you’re out at a yard sale or thrift store, keep your eyes out for funky old plates and candlestick holders. Bring them home, store them and put one together when the mood strikes you.
Yesterday after going to the gym, I stopped by one of my favorite thrift stores and spotted a vintage deviled egg plate for $5.50 and an old white candlestick for $1. Here’s what I came up with:

It’s really a very easy project! Simply find an old plate and candlestick:

Clean the surfaces of the plate and candlestick. Using E6000 epoxy glue, attach the candlestick to the bottom of the plate. Put the project out of harms way and let the epoxy set. It will take a few hours to completely set.
